The goal of our event has always been to help raise money for cancer research and prevention, screening and treatment. My sister, Charlotte Bohn, was diagnosed in September of 2011 with Stage 3 colon cancer at the age of 35. She was re-diagnosed in June of 2013 with Stage 4 colon cancer. Ulman was there for her when she needed them. With an unwavering mission to enhance lives by supporting, education, and connecting young adults, their families, and friends who are affected by cancer, the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults has accomplished a great deal in the way of providing crucial support to thousands of young adults with cancer — through education, scholarship programs, a network of human and health care resources, and fundraising for program and support services provided free of charge. Ulman helped Charlotte come alive again with their Cancer to 5K Run program. Unfortunately, Charlotte lost her battle with cancer in 2015. On February 11, 2015, my sister Charlotte died at Gilchrist Hospice at the age of 38. Charlotte was a warrior and never allowed her cancer to define who she was. This year's contest will mark the 7th Annual Charm City Strongwoman Contest, a Memorial Contest for my sister and a tribute to all of the strong women out there.
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults was founded in 1997 by Doug Ulman who, at age 19, was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. After his surgery and diagnosis, Ulman struggled to find information and support programs for young adults who have been diagnosed with cancer. Frustrated by the lack of resources for your adults affected by cancer, he and his family decided to create the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. Since then, has grown into an organization whose mission is to "change lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer."
Cancer changes lives. So does Ulman. It certainly changed Charlotte's life and it changed our lives. Because when one person has cancer, the entire family has cancer. Ulman changes lives by giving those young adults and their families hope and support.
The Ulman House, a home away from home for young adult cancer patients and their caregivers, located in East Baltimore, will open in October 2018. The Ulman House will create a community that fosters peer and social support, decreases financial and other burdens, and encourages hope and healing. Patients and their caregivers will be able to stay in one of nine private suites while enjoying group and individual programming in the house including art therapy, physical exercise, meditation, home cooked meals, Where YA Meet support groups, and an incredible music room. There will also be opportunities to speak with Ulman’s patient navigators and social workers from Baltimore area hospitals.
This September, the Charm City Strongwoman Contest will work to raise money for this very special project, a project that will be ongoing even once it is open to the families. Over the next five year, Fivex3 Training pledges to raise $20,000 each year at our contest to benefit the Ulman House. Our plan is that by 2022, we will have raised $100,000 and be eligible to name one of the nine private suites in honor of my sister, Charlotte Giza. The money we raise through the contest will help fund the Ulman House and help so many families and patients in need of a place to call "home."
Thank you for your doantion. ;)

The 2018 Charm City Strongwoman is a Memorial Contest for Charlotte Bohn, who died on February 11, 2015 after a 3 1/2 year battle with colon cancer. She was an inspiration and was as strong as she was beautiful. Proceeds from the contest benefit the Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults, an organization that Charlotte and her family received support from during treatment, and continue to support.
The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
