We were asked to write "your why" on our fundraising page.  My why is simple, to help others faced with a cancer diagnosis and there is no better organization to live this purpose than the Ulman Foundation.  I do this to honor my son, Steven who passed away from a brain tumor at 24.  Steven researched many organizations to honor his father who passed from pancreatic cancer and found Ulman.  He planned on running across country on their 4K experience only to find out he had cancer himself.  The Ulman teams ran instead for him (2016) and then in memory (2017) and the outpouring of support that continues today is inspiring and so motivating. Cancer may change lives but the entire Ulman organization and those associated like the teams put together for K2K, 4K, Team Fight, etc. also change lives by supporting, offering resources, housing, scholarships and making a difference one mile at a time.

I am returning this April 2019 to once again be a support driver to a team of riders and Ulman staff to spread the message and hope to all we meet on our journey from Baltimore to Key West which will include visiting cancer treatment centers.  Please consider supporting the Ulman Foundation because they truly are an exceptional organization doing extraordinary things for those affected by cancer.  Thank you so much!

CHALLENGE:

Over 72,000 young adults are diagnosed with cancer every year. Young adults (ages 15-39) face a variety of unique challenges with a cancer diagnosis including fertility preservation, social isolation, lack of insurance, delayed diagnosis, and more. 

SOLUTION:

Ulman Foundation changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, Ulman is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.

Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.

Ulman House - This year Ulman will open a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore.
