Here I go again – again.   In April 2018 I will again embark on a journey from Key Highway in Baltimore to Key West Florida.  When I say journey, I don’t mean I’ll be flying there or riding in a car.  For 8 days in April, about 30 of us will share the 1,500 miles and ride our bicycles from Key Highway in Baltimore to Key West, FL - all this in an effort to raise money and awareness to support the Ulman Cancer Fund.  For me, it will be yet another Victory ride - Victory over cancer.

On Dec 22, 2012 (yes, just before Christmas) I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma.  My cancer journey has been a long one. One that has taken me through broken bones, chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and lots of prayers. One of the most significant parts of this journey were the two previous Key to Keys rides in 2015 and 2016.  And not just because I was able to do those rides after surviving cancer; but I was able to do them with amazing people whose singular goal was to love and support those fighting cancer. 

I believe the ride is simply a metaphor for what UCF stands for.  When you ride in a group, there is always someone up front “pulling” those behind.  But, as the ride wears on, each person takes turns pulling the others.  This is the nature of the Ulman Cancer Fund.  People who are affected by cancer in some way “pulling” others when they can and being “pulled” when they need it.  This is how we were meant to live - for each other.

As Ulman Cancer Fund’s slogan says, “Cancer changes lives. So do we!”  My life was changed that day in 2012, just 3 days before Christmas, but it was changed for the better.  God has blessed me in so many ways, not the least of which are my awesome friends and supporters.  So, I’m asking for your support now.  You can be part of my Victory!  Please consider a donation.  Any amount goes a long way.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:
 

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

UCF House - a “home away from home” to provide free housing for young adult cancer patients, and their caregivers, in East Baltimore. 

Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival.

Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
