My cancer journey began in the summer of 2003 after returning from Operation Iraqi Freedom. Everyone's cancer journey is different but we all share one thing, we hate cancer. Cancer affects the patient, the family, caregivers and friends. One thing all cancer patients need is a support system, that is where The Ulman Cancer Fund had made a difference and continues in that mission, no one should have to face cancer alone. 

I became involved with UCF many years after my diagnosis with breast cancer. I participated in the Key to Keys (Baltimore, MD to Key West, FL) bike ride beginning in 2013. I have seen first hand the difference UCF is making in so many lives. UCF is also involved in the support of servicemen and women at Walter Reed. On one of the Key to Keys ride I met a very special person now special friend. She came along on the ride as one of the support personnel for the riders. She had gotten approval from her doctors to come along, she was still undergoing treatment. Regardless of her cancer path, she has looked cancer in the face and said not today. She is a fighter, I can't help but think of the Katy Perry song Roar when I think of her.  Her positive atttitude and infectious laugh has touched so many lives. She continues her cancer battle even today. 

Point to Point is a new UCF event similar to Key to Keys. Instead of riding a bike we will be running from Baltimore to Key west.  I won't run every mile but as group together we will cover this distance. This is one small measure I can take to help UCF continue to support those affected by cancer to include my friend. Every step and mile I cover from Baltimore to Key West will be for her as continues her fight and to Roar.  I hope one day there will be advances, cures and prevention for all types of cancer. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, impacted by cancer. With your support, the Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide free support services and resources for the young adult cancer community including:

Cancer to 5K - a 12-week training program designed to introduce or reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

Patient Navigation - a free program (onsite at cancer centers and remotely through our office) that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone. We provide one-on-one support & resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer expereience and long-term cancer survival.

Scholarships - a financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
