In April 2015 I will embark on a journey from Key Highway in Baltimore to Key West Florida. When I say journey, I don’t mean I’ll be flying there or riding in a car. For 8 days in April, about 30 of us will share the 1,500 miles and ride our bicycles from Key Highway in Baltimore to Key West, FL - all this in an effort to raise money and awareness to support the Ulman Cancer Fund. For me, it will be a Victory ride - Victory over cancer.
On Dec 22, 2012 (yes, just before Christmas) I was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma. My cancer journey has been a long one. One that has taken me through broken bones, chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant, and lots of prayers. While on this journey, just days before the stem cell transplant; I went to the 2014 Key to Keys kickoff. The morning was filled with joy and hope as those riders where about to embark on their own journey for their own reasons. Some were riding in honor of loved ones affected by cancer; others were riding in Victory over cancer. It moved me. That morning, my good friend Steve and I made a pact that if I was healthy enough in 2015, we would ride the Key to Keys experience together.
My stem cell transplant was a complete success and I am in near complete remission. So, the pact is on!! I will ride in Victory to Key West in April along with Steve and the other riders.
As the Ulman Cancer Fund slogan says, “Cancer changes lives. So do we!” My life was changed that day in 2012, just 3 days before Christmas, but it was changed for the better. God has blessed me in so many ways, not the least of which is my awesome friends and supporters. So, I’m asking for your support now. You can be part of my Victory! Please consider a donation. UCF Experiences Key to Keys is a journey that brings together a diverse group of individuals to build a community of support for those affected by cancer. Using cycling as a platform, Key to Keys participants come together throughout the journey to share their individual cancer connections and give out as much support to others as they are receiving.
