Dear Friends and Family,

 This November, I will be running the 2014 NYC Marathon as a part of "Team Fight," and in support of a wonderful organization, The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults. The Organization was created by Doug Ulman and his family.

 At age 19, Doug was diagnosed with chondrosarcoma and within a year of his first cancer diagnosis, he was diagnosed with malignant melanoma twice. Upon returning to school, Doug faced many unanticipated hurdles.  He struggled to find information and support programs that addressed the myriad of issues he was dealing with: questions of nutrition, physical activity, relationships and dating, the emotional upheaval of facing his own mortality, and a return to his studies, among other concerns. Frustrated by the lack of resources to speak to and support the unique needs of young adults affected by cancer, Doug and his family created The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults.

 UCF began as a program of The Wellness Community, under the name The Ulman Fund of the Wellness Community-Baltimore: Supporting Young Adults Affected by Cancer. This collaboration enabled the Ulman family to immediately start creating and administrating support programs and raising funds to maintain them. The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults was founded as an independent organization in 1997.

Now, the Ulman Cancer Fund is a leading voice in the young adult cancer movement. UCF works to change lives by creating a community of support for young adults facing cancer.

The Ulman Cancer Fund for Young Adults changes lives by creating a community of support for young adults, and their loved ones, as they fight cancer and embrace survivorship. 

With your support, The Ulman Cancer Fund is able to provide multiple support services and resources for the young adult cancer community, including: 

• Cancer to 5K - A free, progressive, 12-week run/walk program designed to reintroduce cancer survivors to physical activity.

• Helping Others Fight - A volunteer program that provides basic services – such as transportation to and from treatment, yard work, home repairs, delivery of chemo care bags – to local cancer patients and their families so they can focus their energy on their battle with cancer and their well-being.

• Patient Navigation - A free program - onsite at cancer centers and remote - that ensures no young adult ever faces cancer alone.  We provide one-on-one personal support and resources to young adults and their families to help them manage the cancer experience and long-term cancer survival. 

• Scholarships - A financial assistance program to help young adults continue their education after being affected by cancer through their own diagnosis or the diagnosis of a loved one.
